He was able to break into the big leagues despite being just over five foot four inches tall.

He hit .341 during his 19-year career.

He never married but he had a long-time relationship with his girlfriend Clara Moss.

His 45-game hitting steak was the major league record until broken by Joe DiMaggio in 1941.
