William Dills Smith
ABOUT WILLIAM DILLS SMITH
Professional catcher that was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers during the first round of the 2016 MLB Draft. He was a member of the World Series-winning Dodgers team in 2020. He began his professional career playing for the Ogden Raptors of the Pioneer League.
Prior to being drafted, he attended Louisville University where he was named a member of the All-ACC Third Team in 2016.
On October 16, 2020 he made major league history during Game 5 of the National League Championship Series after becoming the first MLB player to face a pitcher with the same name during an at-bat in the postseason. He faced pitcher, Will Smith , who was playing for the Atlanta Braves at the time.
He lives with his wife, Cara.
He recorded his first career major league hit facing Steven Matz on May 28, 2019.
