ABOUT WILLIAM KLEIN

Known for his work in the genres of fashion photography and photojournalism, this visual artist created unique, irony-tinged photo spreads for Vogue magazine and also directed such satirical films as Le Couple Temoin and Mr. Freedom.

Early in his career, he earned the 1957 Prix Nadar for a photojournalism piece on New York City.

His debut film, Who Are You, Polly Maggoo?, served as a satire of the fashion industry.

Born to a Jewish family in New York City, he later permanently relocated to France.

Before becoming a photographer, he studied painting with French visual artist Fernand Leger .
