ABOUT WILLIAM FOWLER

Astrophysicist who was the first to come up with the theory of element generation in stars. He received the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1983 for his revolutionary contributions to the field.

He studied science at Ohio State University and earned his doctorate at the California Institute of Technology.

His theory held that at the core of stars become progressively heavier and the elements are fused to create light and and heat, and the heaviest elements are formed when they start exploding into supernovae.

He grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Before him, many Nobel Prize in Physics winners, like Neils Bohr , preferred to look in the micro, subatomic world, rather than into space.
