Shortstop early in his career who later played first base and left field, he was an All-Star and Silver Slugger in 1994.

The Montreal Expos signed him as an amateur free agent in 1988.

He played his final MLB season in 2005 with the Washington Nationals.

He was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.

Left fielder Moises Alou was his teammate on the Expos.
