ABOUT WALTER SMITH
Manager of the Glasgow Rangers and the Scotland national team. He managed multiple teams from 1978 until 2011. The final team he managed was the Rangers FC .
He played for Dundee United until an injury at 29 forced him to retire from playing and join the management team.
He found success both with Scotland, taking the team up 70 spots in the world rankings, and the Rangers, where he was the second-winningest coach. He died from cancer at the age of 73.
He grew up at the East End of Glasgow, watching the Rangers from his earliest days. He and his wife Ethel had sons named Neil and Steven.
He was briefly the assistant coach under Alex Ferguson with Manchester United.
