ABOUT WALTER BRIGGS JR.
MLB sports executive who owned the Detroit Tigers for five seasons after his father died.
He graduated from Georgetown University. He worked for the Michigan Central Railroad Company.
He wanted to continue ownership of the Tigers and Briggs Stadium, but a consortium of 11 bought it after family-estate administrators put both up for sale in 1956.
His father Walter Briggs Sr. also co-founded the Detroit Zoo.
He presided over the Tigers during Al Kaline 's time with the team.
