He served in the US Army during World War II.
He won a Pulitzer Prize for Investigative Journalism in 1957.
He had two daughters with his wife Pearl.
He worked as an Assistant Secretary of the Department of Health, Education and Welfare in the administration of President John F. Kennedy .
