Self-help author, entrepreneur, and philanthropist associated with the New Thought movement. He is perhaps best known for a memoir entitled The Success System That Never Fails.
He managed a Chicago newsstand when he was just thirteen years old. At sixteen, he became a highly successful insurance salesman.
In 1919, he founded the Combined Insurance Company of America, which quickly grew into a billion-dollar enterprise.
He was raised by his mother on the South Side of Chicago and grew up in poverty.
He was inspired by author Napoleon Hill 's revolutionary self-help book, Think and Grow Rich. He and Hill later co-wrote a book called Success Through a Positive Mental Attitude.
