She graduated from Leonia High School in New Jersey.

She was a member of the Metropolitan Opera Ballet until she married her husband in 1924.

She divorced her first husband, Raymond J. Maxwell, in 1937.

She and designer Anne Fogarty have both won a Neiman Marcus Award.
