ABOUT VERA BRITTAIN

English Voluntary Aid Detachment nurse, writer, and pacifist who is best recognized for her best-selling 1933 memoir "Testament of Youth," which told about her experiences during the First World War.

She attended boarding-school at St Monica's, Kingswood, Surrey. She also attended Somerville College, Oxford.

Her first novel "The Dark Tide" was published in the year 1923.

Her parents were Thomas Arthur and Edith Bervon Brittain. She was married to George Catlin from 1925 to 1970. They had three children named Shirley Williams, Baroness Williams of Crosby, and John Catlin. Roland Leighton, who became her fiancé in August of 1915, her close friends Victor Richardson and Geoffrey Thurlow, and finally her brother Edward were all killed in WWI.

Swedish actress Alicia Vikander played her in the adapted featured film, Testament of Youth.
