Virtuoso guitarist who has played rock, jazz, and classical instrumental pieces and solos and who also played in the group M.A.R.S.

At the age of five he entered the local music conservatory to learn how to play piano.

He was one of the only 1980s rock instrumental musicians to sell more than 100,000 albums.

His wife's name is Shizuka.

Frederic Chopin was one of MacAlpine's earliest musical influence.
