ABOUT TOMMY SALO

Goalkeeper who helped the Swedish national team win gold at the 1994 Olympics. He played in two NHL All-Star Games, representing the Edmonton Oilers in 2000 and 2002.

He spent several years in the New York Islanders' minor-league system and emerged as the team's starting goaltender from 1996 to 1999.

He spent his last two professional seasons playing for Frolunda HC in the Swedish Hockey League.

He grew up near the Swedish industrial town of Sjurhammer.

He played alongside Mats Sundin on the Toronto Maple Leafs.
