He was a Tennessee High School AAA State Champion while pitching for Antioch High School.

He played 14 minor league seasons in addition to his MLB career.

He has three children with marathon runner and wife Diane Jones.

He was teammates with Cal Ripken Jr. during his final MLB season in 1994.
