An American journalist who is most recognized for his contributions as a war correspondent reporting from China.
He received a scholarship to the elite Harvard University in 1934.
He wrote the novel The Mountain Road, which was based on his experiences as a war correspondent; it was later turned into a film.
He was born in Dorchester, Boston.
He and comedian Wendy Liebman both studied at Harvard.
