Opening batsman who led Bombay to an unexpected Ranji Trophy triumph in 1970-71, and was later a renowned groundskeeper who prepared the pitch on which the 2011 World Cup was played.
He began his career as a candidate for opening batsman for India's 1974 tour of England.
He has the unusual distinction of being both a cricketer and an organic chemist.
His cousin is cricketer A.D. Naik.
