Guitar player who founded the Dixie Dregs and who has played with Deep Purple since 1994. He also played with Kansas for part of the 1980s.
A visit to the county fair where a musician was picking through a dixie melody got him into guitars.
He co-wrote Kansas' last big hit, "All I Wanted."
His father was a minister and his mother was a classical pianist.
He contributed to more than ten of Ian Gillan and Deep Purple's albums.
