He lived in Wisconsin, Tennessee, and Georgia during his childhood.
He toured with US Vice President Al Gore and First Lady Hillary Clinton in the South during the 1996 United States Presidential election.
He has two children with his wife Yolanda.
He co-wrote the song "Revolution" for Spike Lee 's Malcolm X biopic.
