ABOUT SONIA BOMPASTOR
Former midfielder and athlete that played soccer professionally for 13 years until retiring in the year 2013. During her playing career, she was also a member of the French women's national team. Shortly after retiring, she then began her professional coaching career. She stands 5'4".
She first began playing soccer as a kid with the US Mer youth squad. She also played for US Thoury and Tours EC during her youth soccer career.
During her professional playing career, she was twice named the UNFP Female Player of the Year. She also won the Cyprus Cup and the UEFA Women's Champions League in the year 2012. In 2021, Bompastor was appointed manager of Lyon's first team. She subsequently led them to 7 trophies won overall including 3 consecutive Division 1 titles in the 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons and the UWCL in 2021-22.
Growing up, she lived with her family in Blois, France.
She primarily played the position of midfielder during her playing career just like Ivan Rakitic .
