ABOUT SHIRLEY HAZZARD

Australian-born novelist who is best known for her 2003 novel, The Great Fire, which received the U.S. National Book Award. Her earlier work, The Bay of Noon (1970), was shortlisted for the Lost Man Booker Prize.

She traveled around Asia with her parents when she was young. She published her debut short story collection, Cliffs of Fall, in 1963.

She received the O. Henry Award for her 1976 short story, "A Long Story Short."

She was born in Sydney, Australia. In 1963, she married fellow writer, Francis Steegmuller.

Hazzard was shortlisted for the Lost Man Booker Prize; Alice Munro was a recipient of the honor.
