Defenseman known for his steady, mistake-free style of play, he was drafted by the Penguins in 2011 and debuted for their AHL affiliate the following year.

He played for the Kingston Voyageurs in the Ontario Junior Hockey League.

He won World Junior Championship bronze competing for Team Canada in 2012.

He grew up in Kingston, Ontario, Canada.

He was part of the same 2011 NHL Entry Draft that produced top pick Ryan Nugent-Hopkins .
