ABOUT SAM BARRY
Hall of Fame coach for the University of Southern California football, basketball and baseball teams.
He was the athletic director at Knox College in Illinois, then went to the University of Iowa to coach its three sports.
He led USC's basketball team to the title game in one of the earliest NCAA tournaments, and likewise helped its football and baseball teams to championships.
He was born in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
His top-ranked USC basketball team went to the national semifinals in 1940, where they were upset by a Kansas team coached by Phog Allen and led by Allen's son.
