He developed an interest in sewing from his mother and worked as a window dresser at the age of eighteen.

He designed the pillbox hat that Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis wore for her husband's presidential inauguration in 1961.

He died on March 26th after a lengthy battle with Kaposi's sarcoma, an AIDS-related cancer.

Elizabeth Taylor was one of his biggest fans.
