ABOUT ROBERT PETERS

American poet, author, scholar, literary critic, and actor who became known for a 1967 work entitled Songs for a Son. His other works include Bronchial Tangle and The Drowned Man to the Fish.

He studied at the University of Wisconsin and traveled to England on a Fulbright Fellowship. Eventually, he earned a Ph.D. in Victorian literature.

His live poetry readings sparked an acting career that eventually took him to theaters in Los Angeles and New York.

He and his wife Jean had a son named Richard who died of meningitis. Later, following his divorce, Peters began a decades-long relationship with male poet Paul Trachtenberg.

His personae poems were inspired by the work of Robert Browning .
