Three-time All-Star pitcher who won 214 games during his 20-year career.

He built up his throwing arm while working on his family farm in Illinois.

He won the National League Comeback Player of the Year Award in 1985.

His brother Paul pitched in the major leagues for the Chicago Cubs.

He finished third in Cy Young Award balloting in 1977 behind winner and Hall of Fame pitcher Steve Carlton .
