ABOUT RENE RIVERA

Former catcher who played for multiple MLB teams including the Minnesota Twins , San Diego Padres , Tampa Bay Rays , New York Mets , Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Angels . In February 2023, he announced his retirement from professional baseball. Later that month, he was named manager of the Frederick Keys in the MLB Draft League.

At 17, he was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the second round of the 2001 Major League Baseball Draft.

In July 2021, he signed a major league contract with the Washington Nationals . In August 2021, he was released by the Nationals.

He and his wife, Mariel Perez, are both from Bayamón, Puerto Rico. In 2013, they welcomed twins.

In April 2016, he was called up to the New York Mets major league team when Travis d'Arnaud was placed on the disabled list.
