ABOUT RAUL BRANDãO

Portuguese journalist and modernist writer best known for his 1917 novel, Humus. His other works include A Farsa, Os Pobres, and El-Rei Junot.

He was born into a family of sailors, and ships and the ocean serve as recurring themes in his literary work.

He worked in the Ministry of War for many years.

He met his future wife in 1896; the couple married the following year.

He was born in the same country as fellow writer Jose Saramago .
