Played in the 2007 Cricket World Cup for India, and helped Mumbai's successful Ranji Trophy campaign of 2002-03.
He was selected in 2000 for the first intake of the National Cricket Academy.
He was the first spin bowler to wear sunglasses while bowling.
His brother is fellow cricketer Kiran Powar.
He and Harbhajan Singh have both been prominent cricketers for Mumbai in domestic play.
