ABOUT RAFAEL CARRION SR.

President and CEO of Banco Popular de Puerto Rico, the largest Puerto Rican bank.

He was born into a poor family in Santurce, Puerto Rico. His parents both died when he was young.

His bank was one of the few to survive The Great Depression.

He and his wife Ernestina Ruiz had eight children.

He and Charles Reed Bishop founded the most successful banks of their respective American-controlled islands: Puerto Rico and Hawaii.
