He grew up in St. Louis and earned his nickname 'Pud' for the way he made hitters 'look like pudding.'
He usually pitched every other day back in the days when teams only had two pitchers.
He had 11 children with his wife Bridget Galvin.
He and Cy Young became two of the only pitchers in MLB history to total over 6,000 innings pitched.
