ABOUT NIKOLAI KAPUSTIN
Trained in classical and jazz. He didn't consider himself a jazz musician, since he had no use for improvisation.
He studied with the famed Alexander Goldenweiser at the Moscow Conservatory.
His 1977 composition "Suite in the Old Style" showcased his dual technique in classical and jazz, sounding like it was jazz improvisation but actually being structured after baroque suites similar to Bach's keyboard partitas.
He fathered famed theoretical physicist Anton Kapustin.
His unique multi-genre style was partially inspired by the work of Johann Sebastian Bach .
