ABOUT NELLIE WONG

Chinese-American poet and activist known for Dreams in Harrison Railroad Park and other collections. A prominent feminist and socialist, she joined both the Freedom Socialist Party and the Radical Women during the 1960s.

She attended San Francisco State University and later established Unbound Feet, a performance troupe dedicated to Asian American and feminist work.

She was featured in a 1981 documentary film entitled Mitsuye & Nellie, Asian American Poets.

She was the daughter of Chinese immigrants and had three siblings, all of whom grew up to be writers or artists.

She and literary contemporary Alice Walker were both involved in feminist activism.
