ABOUT MUZHARUL ISLAM

An influential figure in Bangladeshi architecture and urban planning; considered the father of Bengali modernism, the Grand Master of regional modernism in South Asia, and the pioneer of modern architecture in Bangladesh. His most important work included the National Assembly Building in Bangladesh, Jatiyo Sangsad Bhaban.

He was a graduate of the University of Oregon and Yale University, where he was a student of the famed Paul Rudolph . In between Oregon and Yale, he was awarded a scholarship in 1956 to study tropical architecture at London's AA School of Architecture.

He won the Aga Khan Award for Architecture and the Independence Day Award in 1999.

He was born and raised in Murshidabad.

He won the Independence Day Award two years after Kabir Chowdhury was also given the same honor.
