ABOUT MUTAZ BARSHIM
Qatari professional track and field athlete who became a star performer in the high jump. He set national and Asian records in the event with a mark of 2.43 meters and won a silver medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.
He began training at a local athletics club when he was 11 years old.
He took home a gold medal at the 2017 IAAF World Championships in London.
His father participated in middle and long distance races. He grew up in a family of five boys and one girl. His brother Muamer also specializes in the high jump.
Sadegh Goudarzi and Kimiya Alizade are two other Olympic athletes who were born in the Middle East.
