ABOUT MICHAEL ALLEN
Journalist who rose to fame as the co-founder of news website Axios. He also co-founded the political reporting site Politico, and the original sole publisher of its daily "Playbook" article as the site's chief White House correspondent.
He earned his bachelor's degree in politics and journalism from Washington and Lee University in 1986. He first reported for the Fredericksburg Free Lance-Star.
He was dubbed "The Man the White House Wakes Up To" in a 2010 profile by The New York Times Magazine. In 2004, he won the White House Correspondents' Association's Merriman Smith Memorial Award for outstanding presidential coverage.
His father was conservative writer Gary Allen.
He frequently corresponded with Dan Pfeiffer during Barack Obama 's first term as president.
