She worked as a prostitute, as well as a musician, as she was not making enough money only playing guitar.
She and Kansas Joe McCoy released "When the Levee Breaks" in 1929.
She was the oldest of thirteen siblings.
Her headstone was paid for by Bonnie Raitt .
