ABOUT MEL TAYLOR
Drummer who worked with the instrumental rock band The Ventures from 1962 until 1996.
He was a drummer for Boris Pickett and Herb Alpert before joining The Ventures, first as a fill-in, then as a permanent member of the band.
He released a solo album called Mel Taylor & The Magics in Action in 1965.
He was diagnosed with cancer in 1996 and died two weeks later; his son, Leon, replaced him in The Ventures.
He and The Ventures played off the success of television hit show Hawaii Five-O, starring Jack Lord .
