ABOUT LUIS TIANT
3-time All-Star pitcher nicknamed El Tiante, won 229 games and recorded 2,416 strikeouts during his nineteen-year MLB career; named American League Comeback Player of the Year in 1972 with the Boston Red Sox.
He starred in his native Cuba as a Little League All-Star.
He became famous for being able to contort his body, leading to a variety of different pitching motions during his wind-up. He played for the California Angels in 1982 and the Pittsburgh Pirates the year prior.
He had three children, Luis Jr., Isabel, and Daniel, with his wife Maria.
He played alongside Hall of Fame slugger Carl Yastrzemski for eight years on the Boston Red Sox.
