ABOUT LUDOVICO ARIOSTO
Italian poet and dramatist best known for a 1516 romantic epic entitled Orlando Furioso. He is also known for Cassaria, a play first performed in 1508.
He put his literary aspirations on hold in his early adulthood because his father insisted that he study law.
He made use of the Italian ottava rima (rhyme scheme) in his most famous epic poem.
He was the oldest of ten children born to an Italian citadel commander.
He and Pietro Metastasio were both Italian poets.
