Famous for works such as Gargoyles, Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, Concerto for Flute and Orchestra, and Sonata for Flute and Piano, this contemporary classical composer became known for the inventive, polytonal elements of his music. He taught at Mannes College, The New School for Music.

When he was just sixteen years old, he performed one of his piano compositions at Carnegie Hall.

He composed a 1996 opera based on Oscar Wilde's novel The Picture of Dorian Gray.

A native of New York, he continued to live and work in the city during his adulthood years.

The famous flautist James Galway recorded several of Liebermann's works, including the Concerto for Flute and Orchestra and the Concerto for Flute, Harp and Orchestra.
