Louise McKinney
ABOUT LOUISE MCKINNEY
Politician and former schoolteacher who became the first woman to be elected to the Canadian legislature in 1917. She belonged to the United Farmers party.
She was always passionate about women's rights, and the imbalance lead her to enter politics in the early 1900s.
She was also the first woman sworn into the Legislative Assembly of Alberta.
She was born in Frankville, Ontario.
She and sculptor Elizabeth Wood were both raised in Ontario.
