ABOUT LOU CRIGER

Catcher for the legendary Cy Young , from the Cleveland Spiders to the Boston Red Sox, he sat behind the plate for most of Young's wins.

He played in the minor leagues for Elkhart Lakeviews and then in the Michigan State League's Kalamazoo Kazoos.

Though never a great hitter, he had a dazzling throwing arm, and a close relationship with Cy Young got him to catch Young's perfect game in 1904 and his no-hitter in 1908.

He was born in Elkhart, Indiana, his father Charles Criger originally from Mecklenburg, Germany.

He was behind the plate for Cy Young 's astounding 20-inning effort against Rube Waddell on Independence Day of 1905.
