ABOUT LEONID PASTERNAK
Post-Impressionist painter who was best known as the father of "Dr. Zhivago" author Boris Pasternak .
He studied law and medicine at Moscow University before entering the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, Germany.
He was a popular painter during his lifetime, and he became a member of the Imperial Academy of Arts in 1905.
He married pianist Rosa Isidorovna Kaufman, with whom he had four children. The couple's famous son, Boris, was born in 1890.
He was a friend of Leo Tolstoy and illustrated many of Tolstoy's epic novels.
