She was born Maureen Oldman and landed her first acting role in 1995 as Honky Mum on the series Honky Sausages.
Her stage name is an anagram of "mia sorella," which means "my sister" in Italian.
She was married to Gerald Bromfield from 1962 to 1970 and James Bass from 1995 to 2001. She has a son named Gerry and a daughter named Tracy.
Her younger brother is the acclaimed actor Gary Oldman .
