ABOUT KIRTLAND CUTTER
Designer of the Idaho Building at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair, which by some estimates, was toured by 18 million visitors. The Idaho Building foreshadowed the Arts and Crafts movement.
He studied painting and illustration at the Art Students League of New York. He helped establish Spokane, Washington, as an architectural city rivaling Seattle and Portland.
He collaborated with Karl G. Malmgren; a majority of his work was entered into the State and National Registers of Historic Places.
He moved to Washington when he was 26 to work as a banker for his uncle. His great-grandfather was the noted naturalist and politician, Jared Potter Kirtland.
He and architect Daniel Burnham both contributed to the 1893 Chicago World's Fair.
