ABOUT KIM THAYIL

Co-founder and guitarist for the rock group Soundgarden, the group known for songs like "Black Hole Sun."

He met one of his future bandmates, Hiro Yamamoto , in high school. One of his first bands was Identity Crisis.

Rolling Stone named him one of the one hundred greatest guitarists of all time in 2003.

His parents emigrated from the south Indian state of Kerala.

Like Scott Weiland and Stone Temple Pilots, Thayil was part of the Seattle grunge music scene.
