Son of Jennifer Connelly who is known for being in movies such as A Beautiful Mind and Requiem for a Dream .

He was only a few months old when his parents broke off their relationship in December 1997.

He is rarely photographed by the paparazzi despite being the son of A-list actors. They originally wanted to name him Liam but they decided that he looked too "exotic" and named him Kai, a Hawaiian name.

He is the son of Jennifer Connelly and David Dugan. The two dated from 1996 to 1997 but never married. Growing up, he lived with his mother but spent the weekends with his father.  Later, his mother married Paul Bettany . He has two half-siblings from that marriage.

His mother previously dated the actor Billy Campbell before dating his father.
