A TV news reporter and anchor, newspaper columnist, radio talk show host.

In 1965, he graduated from Harris Teachers College with a degree in elementary school education.

One of his earliest journalism gigs was working for a children's radio program.

He married Barbara Turk in 1969, but divorced in 1989. The former couple had two daughters together.

He joined Pope John Paul II on his 1979 American tour.
