Nicknamed El Gallo Negro, he won 21 of his first 25 bouts as a professional boxer, 16 of those victories decided by knockout.
He turned professional when he was just 15 years-old, learning to fight with an orthodox stance.
He appeared on the television reality series The Contender when he was 18 years-old, making him the youngest contestant on the show.
He was born in Tamaulipas, Mexico.
He is the brother of welterweight boxer James De la Rosa .
