MLB All-Star pitcher who helped the Florida Marlins defeat the New York Yankees in the 2003 World Series with a game 6 shutout; also won a World Series Championship with the Boston Red Sox in 2007.
He passed up a scholarship to Texas A&M University and signed his first professional contract with the Marlins.
He hit a home run in 2006, and became the first Boston Red Sox pitcher to achieve the feat in 35 years.
He had one daughter with his wife Holly.
He won a World Series ring with the Boston Red Sox in 2007, along with his teammate Manny Ramirez .
